The following Moodle activities support assessment in various guises. All assessment information goes straight into the grade book so that students can monitor their learning progression. Tutors can access the course grade book so that they can assess the learning within a cohort which informs the pace of the workshop, or managers to ensure that course participants are participating or have been successful in the training they have taken part in.
Quiz
This is the ultimate assessment tool where participants have to answer a series of questions to determine whether they have met the course objectives or not.
Quizzes can have time limits and provide feedback based on the overall grade achieved. The questions used can also be randomised (or not depending on your requirements) and the layout altered. There are also various measures that can be utilised that maintain integrity of the grades.
Quizzes are containers for questions.
A powerful assessment tool to support your assessment strategy, quizzes can contain a wide range of question types and options to randomise question selection, display feedback, set time limits etc. make this a very flexible module.

Question Bank
This is where the main components of any Quiz activity are stored and created, namely questions. There are a wide variety of question types including;
- Multiple choice
- True/false
- Short answer
- Matching
- Essay
- Cloze (fill in the blanks)
Questions can be organised to suit your needs and share across multiple Quiz activities. Each question type offers multiple configuration options including answer specific feedback.

Assignments
Provide learners with an easy to use place to submit their work. All submissions are collated to enable speedy review of submissions so far, grading and capturing tutor feedback.
Submissions can be single or multiple files, online text; even assignments that are offline can be graded too.

Lesson
Present any content in a series of pages that can incorporate questions (Multiple choice, True/false, Short answer, Matching, Essay, Numerical to check understanding before the learner progresses.

SCORM
Content developed to conform with the industry standard SCORM format is be deployed in Moodle. Participants’ responses and scores can be tracked enabling to obtain full value from media-rich content from content specialists. Moodle is SCORM 1.2 compliant.

Workshop
This manages the distribution and collation of peer assessed assignments. Once set up, learners submit work and formally assess the work of others against predefined criteria. Learning is enhanced by both doing the task and by critically reviewing the work of others. It is an effective learning tool.
