Information Sharing

All activities can be used to share information if that is how the course designer wants to use a particular activity. However, some activities are better suited to imparting information than others. Below is a brief list of the remaining activities and resources that are particularly effective at this.

Page

An individual web page for any combination of text, images, videos, sound files. You can even display objects from external resources like YouTube videos.

Page

URL

Great for signposting web sites and other resources. Embed web sites in your course or display them in a pop-up window.

URL

Folder

Great for keeping course pages clean and uncluttered if you have lots of files that you need to make available in your course. A single link can provide access to any number of files.

Folder

Lesson

This is a collection for web pages that the user can go through in a linear fashion, one page after another, or branched, where buttons lead participants to relevant sections within the activity. Functionality within this activity means that participants can be assessed to make sure key concepts are understood. They are particularly good at scenario-based learning as pages can have a question on it which, like the page with buttons, can take the learner to specific pages within the content.

Glossary

As well as a collaborative tool, glossaries can be used for “on-demand” learning where key concepts are highlighted in any HTML document or Moodle resource/activity with the course which, when clicked open up a pop-up with the explanation. There are many different and varied uses for this activity, including collaborative working if you think outside the box!
